Sasai Money Transfer, a division of Cassava Technologies, has introduced a funeral cover product for its 1,500 money transfer agents in South Africa.
The offering, called EcoSure, is a collaboration with Econet Insurance, a subsidiary of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe.
The funeral cover provides up to US$3,000 in benefits linked to agent performance, targeted at meeting the demands of families in the diaspora during bereavement, particularly the costs of cross-border repatriation and burial.
“With over three million Zimbabweans living in South Africa, death in the diaspora comes with logistical and financial challenges,” said Sasai Money Transfer Executive Head, Shepherd Hondoyemoto. “This initiative supports our agents and their families, demonstrating our commitment to addressing real community challenges.”
Gift Noko, Chief Insurance Officer at Econet Insurance, said the product is aimed at providing financial and emotional relief. “This funeral cover preserves dignity and offers peace of mind, enabling agents to focus on their work knowing their families are protected,” he said.
The EcoSure funeral cover follows Sasai Money Transfer’s Zero Fees campaign launched earlier this year. The company is also planning to extend the product to agents in other African markets, including Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Kenya, and Zambia, as well as to diaspora communities in the UK, the US, and Australia.
The launch comes amid a surge in Zimbabwe’s remittance flows, which reached US$1.5 billion in the first nine months of 2024, according to the country’s 2025 National Budget Statement. The increase highlights the importance of remittances in supporting families and the economy.
