Econet InfraCo commissions masterplan for 300ha industrial park

Econet InfraCo will house Econet's towers and properties

Econet InfraCo has appointed architects to draw up a masterplan for a 300-hectare industrial park near Robert Mugabe International Airport, marking the next step in plans to develop a large-scale export-oriented zone.

The project is part of the Econet Group’s push to use its infrastructure assets to support industrial and technology-driven growth.

Econet Group CEO Douglas Mboweni said the architects have been tasked with benchmarking the project against successful industrial and technology parks elsewhere.

“We want to create a world-class One-Stop-Shop for companies targeting export markets,” says Mboweni. “This industrial park is being designed to support a new generation of globally competitive businesses – from advanced manufacturing and logistics to technology and AgriTech enterprises.”

The park will also host Econet’s data centre services, providing digital infrastructure for firms operating in the zone and beyond.

Once the masterplan is complete, Econet InfraCo will engage government on approvals and propose an incentives package for investors.

“Our objective is to work closely with government to ensure the project aligns with national development priorities, while also offering an attractive and predictable operating environment for international and local investors,” Mboweni says.

The development will include technology hubs focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, with an emphasis on youth-led businesses. Econet cited proximity to the international airport and access to reliable water supplies as key reasons for picking the site.

Planned infrastructure includes independent power supply, internal roads, security systems, and centralised administration. The project will be implemented through a special purpose vehicle that will oversee development, management, and international marketing of the park.
