US AI company Anthropic has picked Cassava Technologies as its reseller in Africa, giving the continent access to its Claude AI models through Amazon’s Bedrock platform.
Anthropic specialises in AI solutions for large businesses, including banks and mobile operators, as well as governments. Its products are known for their focus on safety and data protection.
“What matters to our customers is being able to use AI in their business, and that starts with access to the best models,” says Hardy Pemhiwa, president and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies. “Bringing Anthropic’s Claude to them through Amazon Bedrock delivers on this need, which is supported by the infrastructure, partnerships and services African businesses need to adopt them responsibly and take a greater part in the digital economy.”
Cassava, foudned by Strive Masiyiwa, will distribute the services alongside Amazon through its Bedrock platform.
The company operates across more than 40 African countries and is the only operator on the continent of NVIDIA AI data centres, known as AI factories. These data centres provide the computing power needed to run AI models and generate responses.
Unlike mobile operators that serve consumers directly, Cassava focuses on providing technology services to large businesses, including mobile operators. Multinationals operating in Africa also rely on the company to support complex technology solutions.
